This program began in the thick of the Covid-19 pandemic in April 2021. MCS joined the Throughcare Volunteer Framework run by Singapore Prisons for inmates about to be released from Prison.
Volunteer Befrienders will build rapport with inmates released from Changi Prison and guide and help with basic needs relating to finance, job and accommodation. The primary role of the Befriender is to be there for the inmates to help them reintegrate into society.
The Befrienders also extend assistance to the families of the inmates with groceries, vouchers, free legal counselling and guidance on educational needs.
Our Befrienders will be trained before establishing contact with the released inmates monthly. They communicate either thru E-letter writing or phone calls on a monthly basis.
