MCS MILESTONES 2024
Reflecting on our initiatives to unite communities
Prison Counselling Services Programme

- Conducted in-care spiritual counselling sessions through experienced volunteers for Hindu inmates weekly
- Provided inmates with volunteer opportunities to foster positive social networks
- Ensured consistent after-care counselling sessions for former convicts
- Deep gratitude expressed by participants
- Organized a successful, anti-drugs talk graced by Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development, Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, in tandem with the Yishun Indian Activity Executive Committee, with local media coverage in July
- Attended an appreciation dinner hosted by the Singapore Central Narcotics Bureau to recognize efforts by MCS and its partners, to raise anti-drugs awareness in the community in November
Food for Life Programme
- Celebrated 24 years of the MCS-led ‘Food for Life’ programme
- Served over 200 elderly and needy in Queenstown
- Home delivery of essential meals by dedicated volunteers
- Highly positive feedback garnered from beneficiaries
- On-going productive collaboration with the Sri Ruthra Kaliamman Temple, the Sri Mariamman Temple, the Sri Sreenivasa Perumal Temple and the Sri Thendayuthapani Temple since 2023 to expand deliveries to a weekly basis
- Catered 500 Deepavali meals in partnership with Samy’s Curry Restaurant to multi-racial residents at the Sembawang Blessing Corner and beneficiaries under the New Hope Community Services

Volunteer Engagement

- Held regular volunteer recruitment drives at local temples and universities
- Conducted virtual on-boarding programmes for new multi-ethnic volunteers
- Facilitated direct interactions with the MCS Board of Directors to exchange insights and receive mentorship
- Strategic alignment of volunteers’ interests and strengths with MCS’s capabilities to contribute to community development
- Focused on expansion of the MCS Youth Wing to consider fresh perspectives and connect with the younger generation
Blood Donation Drive Events
- In support of the National Blood Programme
- Teamed up with representatives from the Sai Centre Katong and the Singapore Telugu Samajam
- Held two events at the Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple and the Sri Sreenivasa Perumal Temple
- More than 200 participants attended both sessions with very enthusiastic responses
- Received Letter of Appreciation from the Singapore Red Cross Society on the efficacy and efficiency of the events
- Aim to explore potential cooperation with the Singapore Red Cross Society and other local organizations on future blood donation events

Legal Counselling Services Programme

- Initiatives designed to enhance legal literacy and encourage proactive legal planning within the community
- Provided free legal counseling sessions to the public on a weekly basis
- Led a workshop about the Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) tool at the Queenstown Community Centre in April
- Organized a session to train volunteers on the LPA process at the Queenstown Community Centre in June
- Held a mini roadshow at the Tekka Market to highlight the importance of establishing a LPA in June
- Offered two complimentary LPA Certification programmes at the Queenstown Community Centre in June and August
